View from the balcony10 viewsWe stayed at Rob Denniston's place in Kalaheo, and it was lovely. Here's a small part of the view from our guest room balcony. There was a lot of vog for most of our trip, but on good days you can see about 50 square miles of ocean from this point.

Shadow12 viewsJessica really liked Rob's animals, especially his cat. Here she is (or at least her feet) playing with Shadow.

What kind of tree?11 viewsTheresa told me what kind of tree this was, but of course I promptly forgot. A picture really can't do it justice. Its flowers are so orange I almost wanted sunglasses for looking at them.

Red flowers8 viewsI took so many flower and scenery pictures in Kauai, I'm surprised I had room for anything else on my camera. I won't clog up the whole album with them, but I will post a few of my favorites.

Blue7 viewsI got a new camera for this trip, and this is the first time I've been able to take pictures this close with a point-and-shoot. Happy me.

Hydrangeas5 viewsI had no idea hydrangeas grew in Hawaii. These were near an overlook in Koke'e.

Chickens9 viewsIn 1992, a big hurricane came through and wreaked havoc on Kauai. All the chicken coops blew away, and there was no way to round up all of them. So today, chickens run loose and beg for crumbs on Kauai.

Fresh Coconut16 viewsJessica doesn't normally like coconut, but she didn't mind the fresh kind. I thought it was yummy.

Falls12 viewsOn Thursday we drove past a really beautiful lookout point on our way to Hanalei. One side of the road looked out over a deep valley with a river running through it and the other side looked over a canyon with a waterfall in the distance. I wish I remembered the name of that place now.

River12 viewsThe view of the river on the other side of the road.

Beth, Karris, Jessica31 viewsHere we are with the waterfall in the background.

Karis and Frank15 viewsVery cute pic of them at the same overlook.

Mom and Jess26 viewsWhy do overlooks make such great photo ops?

Theresa and Theresa16 viewsThe one on the right is Frank's aunt by marriage, and she was a fantastic tour guide. The other Theresa is her niece. It was really fun to spend time with them while we were there. To avoid confusion, we sometimes called them Big T and Little T.

Hanalei16 viewsYes, the home of Puff the Magic Dragon. Also a great place to learn how to surf. (not that I tried) I was having so much fun that I forgot to take many pictures. This one is Little T giving Jessica a ride on her paddleboard.

Na Pali15 viewsThursday was a busy day! After a few hours at Hanalei, we drove to the end of the road at Ke'e and climbed a trail along the coastline. This mountain was on one side, and the other side fell sharply towards some beautiful beaches. If memory serves correctly, this is the Na Pali trail. It runs 12 miles along uninhabited coastline, but most of us were in flip flops so we didn't go that far. We did climb to the first lookout for some nice pictures, though.

Ray, Theresa and Frank16 views3 cousins. Ray is Big T's son. I couldn't have asked for nicer company on our trip.
